Hello there from your favorite Chicago wedding photographer! Our 2023 season is beginning and we kicked it off on a high note with Jaime and Allison’s engagement session this month! They chose some of my favorite and most iconic Chicago locations for their session, Lincoln Park and North Avenue Beach, with a winning combination of skyline views and one of the best parks in the city. Lake Michigan creates such a stunning effect as it meets the skyline, and in my opinion makes Chicago one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
We first met Jaime and Allison, and their precious bulldog Murphy, when we lived in the same apartment complex, and were so thrilled to capture their engagement photos for them! We started our time together at Lincoln Park where Murphy enjoyed getting lots of compliments on his cuteness and some chuckles as he enjoyed his special treats (red peppers!) to smile at the camera.
Even though Jaime + Allison’s session was in the winter, we still had lots of color thanks to the golden prairie grasses, architecture, and one of my favorite Chicago sculptures – the Honeycomb! They decided to start with their more formal outfits in Lincoln Park, which also added some nice pops of color. Couples frequently ask advice on outfits, and my number on tip is to choose complimentary colors and stick to simple patterns mixed with solids. The biggest thing to avoid is two competing patterns or outfits that are identical in color, so that you can maintain a pleasing contrast. Other than pattern and color, always choose something that you feel good in and feels true to your personality! On a practical note, be sure and bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes depending on the distance on foot needed for your location.
Lincoln Park can be crowded year round so it’s important to allow enough time for parking and walking to our meeting spot. In preparation for engagement sessions we always send out tips to make sure that your session is a success – just like Jaime + Allison’s!
After our time in the park, Jaime + Allison did a quick outfit change and we headed over to North Avenue Beach for some skyline views! This spot was a bit more windy (cue “windy city” trademark) so I was glad that their second outfit involved some stylish coats!
Murphy continued to be an adorable ham for the camera, and the blue waters of Lake Michigan did not disappoint! The design of North Avenue Beach pier is really genius, being able to walk out into the lake and get those iconic Chicago skyline views is worth it every time!
